Dear students, I am aware that we were supposed to meet this week at the A. Siekierska’s exhibition, but the artist is unavailable on that day; but no worries, we will meet with her next week (11th March). So this week, on 4th March, we will go to see „Avatar” exhibition. Address: Austriackie Forum Kultury/Österreichisches Kulturforum, Próżna 7/9 Street. Let’s meet there at 9.50. Please, be on time.
The exhibition juxtaposes the artistic practice of the Vienna collective Total Refusal – Digital Disarmament Movement: Robin Klengel, Leonhard Müllner, Michael Stumpf, who appropriates the virtual worlds of computer games and focuses on the pacifist idea of their “disarmament” with the work of Piotr Kopik, a Polish multimedia artist, who is also interested in the ways artificial worlds are used. Piotr Kopik runs the 3D Studio and Virtual Events I at the Faculty of Media Art of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. The virtual realities he creates can be freely explored, and the VR experience goes beyond the narrative framework, becoming a reflection on the very essence of virtual reality and our role in it.
If you have the time it is highly advisable to read some basic info about the artistic collective called Total Refusal ( http://www.leonhardmuellner.at/total-refusal/ ) – we will see their works and we will discuss them. Thank you very much in advance and see you soon. Kind regards, wk
